The High Court in Kampala has denied bail to Molly Katanga who is accused of murdering her husband and businessman Henry Katanga.
Justice Isaac Muwata said on Tuesday morning that she had not fulfilled the conditions to enable her be released on bail.
The judge explained that whereas Molly told court that she is suffering from injuries which require specialised medical attention, the same can be treated in prison.
“Dr. Patrick Sekindi and Dr . Joel Kiryabwire wrote letters from C Care IHK assessing the applicant’s medical condition and lawyers requested for a further comprehensive examination about her health. All the said letters fall short of what is required under the law . A Prisons officer is the one who is required to do so. This ground therefore fails,” Justice Muwata said.
“On the issue of advanced age, I have found that she is only 55 years old and therefore not of advanced age. She is already committed for trial. There is no likelihood for delay. Although the sureties were substantial, the circumstances don’t warrant them to be considered.”
The judge said the application is dismissed and advised Molly Katanga to prepare for her trial, starting July, 2, 2024.
Prosecution alleges that on November 2, 2023, at Mbuya, Chwa 2, in Nakawa Division, with malice aforethought, Molly killed her husband, Henry Katanga.
