The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that it has not registered or issued a certificate of registration to any political party or organization under the name People Power Front (PPF).
In a statement released on April 4, 2025, the Commission informed the public that no such entity exists in its official records.
“The Electoral Commission would like to inform the general public that as of 4th April 2025, it has not registered or issued a certificate of registration to any political party or organization called People Power Front or PPF,” the statement read.
The clarification follows the announcement earlier this week about the formation of a political party under the same name.
Juloius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, reiterated that the Commission has not issued a certificate of registration to any party or organization under the name People Power Front.
However, Mucunguzi acknowledged that the promoters of the party had approached the Commission with the intent to register it.
He explained that the Commission had guided them on the legal requirements for political party registration, but they had not completed the process.
“A group of people promoting a political organization or party called People Power Front came to the Electoral Commission in April 2024. To register a political party, the Commission outlined to the promoters the steps and processes required under the Political Parties and Organizations Act 2025, which is the law that guides the registration of political parties. We asked the promoters to follow all the requirements laid down in the law. That process is not complete and has not been completed,” he stated.
“The promoters of People Power Front are aware of what they are supposed to do to complete that process. But as we speak today, the fourth of April 2025, that process is not complete.”
He urged the public to note that there is no registered political party called People Power Front.
