Kalungu West Member of Parliament, Gonzaga Ssewungu, has called on Parliament to use the suffering of Jesus Christ as an opportunity to repent from acts of corruption that are destroying the country.
Speaking during the Good Friday Way of the Cross procession, Ssewungu appealed to fellow MPs especially those who received the sh100 million to reflect deeply on their actions during this holy period.
“I appeal to fellow MPs to use Jesus’ suffering to refrain from acts of theft, acts of corruption,” he said.
He also urged Ugandans and the faithful to pray to God for better leadership in the country, decrying the continued theft of taxpayers’ money.
Ssewungu expressed concern that the rampant corruption within Parliament makes honest MPs like himself appear guilty by association.
He made these remarks as the Way of the Cross procession set off from Rubaga Cathedral, led by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, who prayed for peace as Uganda prepares for general elections next year.
Several leaders, including Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye and Members of Parliament Balimwezo, Ssewanyana, and Mukasa Aloysius, joined Archbishop Ssemogerere and other faithful for the procession in Kampala.
