Police have said the number of people who died in devastating floods that hit Kampala on Wednesday morning has hit seven.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said two more bodies were recovered later in the day to bring the number of dead to seven.
He said among the two was George Bogere, an employee of the US embassy and resident of Luteete village, Kasangati town council in Wakiso district.
“He was an employee of the U.S. Embassy in Kampala and tragically drowned while riding a motorcycle early this morning,” Owoyesigyire said.
Earlier, five other bodies including those two children were retried from the floods that swept various parts of Kampala , following a heavy downpour that started at around 5am.
The floods cut off several roads while many buildings were also filled with water.
Police said search and rescue efforts are still ongoing to retrieve bodies and if possible rescue other members who could be trapped under the floods.
