The Deputy Commander of UPDF Air Force, Brig Gen Stephen Kiggundu, has died.
According to the UPDF spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye, Gen Kiggundu died on Easter Sunday in the bathroom at his residence in Entebbe.
“Brig Gen Kiggundu was well all day until the evening of today when he met his death in his bathroom,” Kulayigye said in a brief statement without providing more details.
Gen Kiggundu last made a public appearance last week in Gulu during the official handover of office by Gen Wilson Mbadi to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the new Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF.
He was the first man to fly Uganda’s jet fighters and the Sukhoi Su-30 owned by the UPDF.
Having previously served as the commander of the Soroti Air force wing, he was elevated to become the deputy air force commander in 2022.
Gen Kiggundu is the second senior UPDF officer to die in an incident related to sliding in the bathroom.
In 2020, Brig Gen Victor Twesigye, the then UPDF liaison officer at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha died in similar circumstances.
Brig Twesigye fell in the bathroom at his home in Nyarushanje in Rukungiri district and died.
