President Museveni has expressed concern that many young and energetic Ugandans are leaving the country to work in Arab countries, where they often face abuse and hardship.
He believes that if Ugandans were good listeners, there would be no need for them to seek employment abroad.
“All the children that are going to work for the Arabs shouldn’t be going there because the jobs are here. The problem here is lack of vision. It is just lack of vision because jobs are here. Countries which don’t have jobs are countries which are poor. Uganda is not poor,” Museveni said.
The president was on Wednesday speaking during the International Labour Day celebration in Fort Portal.
The president said it is only laziness and lack of vision that Ugandans cry over lack of jobs that he said are available.
“Don’t tell me about lack of jobs. It is just lack of vision because jobs are there. The problem of Uganda now is not lack of jobs but attitude. In our 1996 election campaign manifesto, we advised what Ugandans had to do to get out of poverty.”
He said by taking part in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, ICT and services, Ugandans will never cry of lack of jobs.
“If you want jobs, listen to the NRM guidelines on full monetization of agriculture so that everybody is involved in the money economy.”
He noted that the country’s struggle should be low cost of transport, electricity and money to use but not jobs.
The president however said government will put more money in the Uganda Development Bank since commercial banks charge highly .
