Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, fondly known as Mama D, a Ugandan chef has broken the world’s longest cooking record.
Bashema on Thursday broke the record held by Nigerian’s Hilda Bacic which stood at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds.
Starting the culinary Marathon on December, 23, 2023, at exactly 10am on December, 28, she surpassed the record and set a new one of 120 hours of continuous cooking, having cooked 114 meals.
“World record holder,” she posted on X .
The marathon
Starting on December, 23, by December 26, Mama D had clocked 61 hours of continuous cooking and later that day, he clocked 66 hours, 52 minutes of cooking and was then on her 77th meal.
By December, 27, Kirabo had clocked the 100-hour mark in which she had prepared over 80 meals, each with a vibrant showcase of Uganda’s rich culinary traditions.
The cooking place in Kira, Wakiso district turned into a party scene with a number of Ugandans including socialites thronging it to enjoy the meals but also cheer her up as she attempted to break the record.
The cooking marathon was also another opportunity for friends to meet up and have a blast as the cooking went on.
Other Ugandans who could not physically access the cooking place took to social media to cheer up Kirabo with a number of them joining her in celebration of endurance and determination to break the world record.
Many were doing a count down on various social media platforms.
