2026 World Cup qualifiers: Uganda 1-2 Algeria
Uganda Cranes squandered its half time lead to lose 2-1 against Algeria in their Group G match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at Namboole Stadium on Monday evening.
Coming on the backdrop of last week’s 1-0 win against Bostwana, the Cranes hoped to build around that result to ensure a perfect return to Namboole.
Everything moved according to plan and in the 10th minute, Travis Mutyaba ensured Uganda took the lead through a belter that left Algerian goalkeeper Anthony Manderea stunned.
The fully packed Namboole was sent into frenzy as the Cranes ended the first half in the driving seat , creating a number of chances, but many went begging.
In a game of two halves, the second stanza saw the visitors get redemption when they equalized, just a minute after restart through Houssem Aouar .
Algeria put the game to bed following mis-controlled ball from Kenneth Semakula saw the visitors make a quick counter which ended in the back of Uganda’s net.
The Algerians held onto the game until the final whistle to ensure they recorded their third victory in the group.
