Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which two securtoy guards robbed cash shs1.5 billion from a bullion van they were escorting.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said the two guards attached to G4S were escorting a bullion van transporting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero.
“Preliminary findings indicate that two G4S security guards, while transiting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero, allegedly conspired to rob the bullion van, registration number UAJ 199T. The vehicle was later abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, along with two rifles,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said the guards robbed shs1.06 billion which was in Uganda shillings and $ 14,474 making it a total of over shs1.5 billion.
Owoyesigyire said after receiving a report of the robbery, police started investigations leading to the arrest of Richard Ambrose Otim who was got from his home district of Kwania.
“He was found in possession of shs117 million suspected to be part of the stolen money. Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be shared as soon as they are available.”
Owoyesigyire assured the public that every effort is being made to recover the remaining money and bring all culprits to justice.
