Police in Luwero District are investigating a case of counterfeit cement following the arrest of two suspects in connection with the illegal activity.
The police responded swiftly to a tip-off about counterfeit cement being manufactured at a hardware store in Kasana Market, located along Kasiso Road in Luwero Town Council.
Sam Twineamazima, the Police Spokesperson for the Savannah Region, confirmed the investigation.
“The Territorial Police in Luwero district are actively investigating a case of counterfeit cement that occurred yesterday, Saturday, the 5th of April, 2025, at around 10:30 am at Kasana market and Kalongo zone, all within Luwero town council, Luwero district.”
The investigation was launched after the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Luwero Station received information on the 4th of April about counterfeit cement being produced at the store.
Acting quickly, OC Luwero, alongside a team of officers, cordoned off the scene and proceeded to arrest Onyango Ronald, a suspect linked to the illegal activity.
The police team, led by DPC, Riso, DISO, SOCO, and OC CID, conducted a thorough search at both the hardware store and the suspect’s residence in Kalongo.
They recovered several items, including bags of suspected counterfeit Tororo Cement, Hima Cement, Fundi Cement, empty packaging bags, and counterfeit materials hidden in two ordinary sacks.
According to police, two suspects were arrested during the operation, and a case of counterfeiting was registered.
“A case of counterfeit was registered, relevant statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, samples were picked for further analysis, and all mentioned companies were informed to come and make statements,” said Sam Twineamazima.
Mutesasira Dauda, another suspect, was also taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Twineamazima further noted, “More inquiries are still at hand.”
The police are continuing their investigation into the counterfeit cement operation and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as they work to uncover the full extent of the illicit activity.
