Kenyan police have arrested two men suspected to have been behind the killing of Ugandan athlete, Benjamin Kiplagat.
Kiplagat, 34, who reached the semi-finals of the 2012 London Olympics in the 3,000m steeplechase was stabbed to death in Eldoret on Sunday.
On Monday morning, Moiben sub-county police commander Stephen Okal said that two suspects including a boda boda rider had been arrested.
He said a knife suspected to have been used to stab the athlete was also recovered from the suspects.
“We have the two suspects in custody and they have been positively identified. We have cast our net wide as we go on with investigations to arrest anyone else involved,” Okal said according to Kenyan website, The Star.
The body of the Ugandan athlete was on Sunday found in a car in Texas near Kimumu Secondary School along the Eldoret-Iten Road whereas an abandoned motorcycle was also found next to the vehicle.
All his items were found intact in the car.
He was reportedly found in a car with stab wounds to his chest and neck, near the Kenyan town of Eldoret, known as a top training centre for athletes.
The news of Kiplagat’s death has sent shockwaves to the entire world.
