The Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi, has called on authorities, especially KCCA to urgently address address the issue of flooding in the city.
He emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further loss of life and destruction of property.
Addressing thousands of Muslim faithful gathered for the prayers, Sheikh Galabuzi expressed concern over the recurrent floods that have ravaged parts of Kampala, particularly during the rainy season.
Galabuzi urged the government and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to prioritize proper urban planning to prevent further flooding, which has already claimed lives.
“Poor planning is the biggest problem. Someone constructs a building, and only after completion do the authorities inform them that the site was designated for a drainage trench. The question is, where were the authorities when the construction was taking place? I implore you to plan for our country,” he emphasized.
He mourned the victims of the floods, expressed his condolences to their families, and urged the government and KCCA to work together to prevent further loss of life due to flooding in Kampala.
Sheikh Galabuzi also expressed concern over the ongoing human rights violations in the country as it prepares for the general elections.
