The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has rejected the appointment of Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake as the deputy chief whip for the opposition in parliament.
Opposition chief whip, John Baptist Nambeshe had fronted Zaake as his deputy but the move was rejected by Among.
“We do not have that position (Deputy Chief Whip) in our Rules of Procedure. We do not have it, so please withdraw it. We have a whip, who is yourself, but we do not have a deputy in our Rules of Procedure. If someone has been given such a position, it is not valid,” Among said.
The rejection saw Nambeshe retract the name.
This is the latest incident showing the bad blood between Among and Zaake.
Previously, Zaake has accused the leadership of parliament of persecuting him in a bid to ensure he is silenced.
“These unending references to the Committee are part of the leadership of Parliament’s wider plot to persecute and silence me so that they may, among other reasons, use me as an example to strike fear among other MPs not to dare question their excesses. Well, whatever they want to do, I am ready,”he said.
Zaake has been taken to parliament’s disciplinary committee over his conduct in Parliament.
Recently, his was removed from office as a commissioner of parliament for allegedly abusing Speaker Among.
Zaake would later drag parliament to court that ordered for his reinstatement but the Attorney General appealed against the ruling.
