The Mukono Police have launched an investigation into a suspected suicide involving a 16-year-old student at Seeta High School, identified as Ssesazi Elishammah.
The Senior Three student was discovered hanging in the school dormitory in the early hours of Friday, February 21, 2025.
According to reports, Ssesazi was found by one of his roommates at approximately 3:00 AM, who immediately alerted the school administration. The school administration, in turn, informed the police, who swiftly responded to the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations into the tragic event were underway.
“The Police in Mukono is currently investigating a suspected case of suicide by hanging that occurred at Seeta High School, Mukono, on the 21st of February 2025,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement .
According to police, the deceased had earlier attended evening classes the previous night until 10:00 PM before retiring to his dormitory.
However, by 3:00 AM, he was found hanging near his bed, prompting immediate action from the school administration and authorities.
“The police responded promptly, and the body was removed from the scene and transported to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death,” the statement added.
There have been reports that Ssesazi, a son to a Kampala businessman had committed suicide after his dad refused to give him cash shs2 million under unclear circumstances.
It was reported that this could have sparked the alleged suicide.
However, police said investigations will help clear the air on what exactly happened and the cause.
“At this stage, the motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to gather more details surrounding the incident. More details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” Owoyesigyire assured.
