Rwanda has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a public holiday, despite the celebration of Eid al-Fitr falling on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, the announcement clarifies that the decision is in line with the Presidential Order No 062/01 of October 19, 2022, which governs public holidays.
“Given that the celebration of Eid el-Fitr is on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in accordance with the Presidential Order No 062/01 of October 19, 2022, on public holidays, the Ministry of Public Service and Labour informs employees and employers in both public and private sectors that Monday, March 31, 2025, will be a public holiday,” the statement read.
In contrast, in Uganda, many employees had hoped for Eid to fall on Monday, allowing them to enjoy a day off, but that was not the case.
So far this year, most public holidays have coincided with weekends, leaving many feeling disappointed by the timing of the calendar.
