PostBank Uganda and Western Union have expanded their partnership with the launch of a co-branded digital service, enabling customers to send and receive money globally through the Wendi mobile wallet.
Wendi, PostBank Uganda’s innovative digital platform, gives users the convenience of conducting financial transactions directly from their smartphones and feature phones.
Under the partnership, customers can now receive funds seamlessly from over 200 countries and territories through Western Union’s international network, with options to send money to global bank accounts, mobile wallets, or for cash pick-up abroad.
The newly introduced service builds on an existing collaboration between PostBank Uganda and Western Union, providing customers with an enhanced, comprehensive digital offering.
“Uganda’s fast-growing digital landscape presents an immense opportunity to enhance financial inclusion,” said Mohamed Touhami el Ouazzani, Regional Vice President of Africa at Western Union.
“This new service reaches banked and unbanked populations, ensuring more Ugandans can participate in the global economy. Integrating Western Union’s international money transfers in the Wendi app is a step further in our Evolve 2025 strategy to make digital services more accessible to customers. As Uganda continues to embrace digital technologies, we are proud to be at the forefront, connecting families and communities.”
By integrating Western Union services into Wendi, PostBank Uganda reaffirms its commitment to expanding access to the global financial ecosystem.
“With Wendi, we are empowering Ugandans, especially those who may have limited access to traditional banking services,” noted Andrew Kabeera, Executive Director for PostBank Uganda.
“Customers can access secure savings accounts, earn 10% annual interest on daily savings, and carry out various transactions with ease. Our collaboration with Western Union furthers this by offering a reliable, easy-to-use platform for international money transfers. Wendi is central to our mission of making financial services accessible to all Ugandans, empowering them to connect with the global community and driving socio-economic development.”
The partnership comes at a time when mobile money usage in Uganda is surging. According to the Bank of Uganda, over 43 million customers were registered for mobile money services in 2023. With Wendi’s integration of Western Union, more Ugandans—particularly those without traditional banking access—can benefit from this growing digital economy.
In addition to international transfers, Wendi also allows users to pay bills, access micro-financial services, and withdraw cash from Wendi kiosks located countrywide.
