Faithful around the world are filled with joy following the announcement that Pope Francis is set to leave Gemelli Hospital today, March 23, 2025, after spending more than a month under medical care.
Dr. Sergio Alfieri, head of the medical team overseeing the Pope’s treatment, confirmed his recovery and imminent discharge.
“The good news the world and everyone is waiting for is that the Holy Father will be discharged. He will return to Santa Marta,” he stated.
The 87-year-old pontiff was admitted on February 14 due to acute respiratory insufficiency caused by a polymicrobial infection, which led to bilateral pneumonia.
The Vatican has also announced that Pope Francis will make a public appearance at noon for the Angelus prayer, where he will greet and bless the faithful from his hospital window before returning to Casa Santa Marta.
“Pope Francis is scheduled to be discharged from hospital on Sunday, 23 March. He will return to Casa Santa Marta after the Angelus, during which he will greet and bless the faithful from a window of the Gemelli Hospital at noon,” the Holy See Press confirmed.
