The Interpol directorate of the Uganda Police Force has said the turnaround time for certificates of good conduct has reduced from seven to five days.
According to Superintendent of Police, Gordon Karuhanga, the move is aimed at quickening the
process for Ugandans and improve service delivery.
“It usually takes seven working days but under the new arrangement, you apply today, Monday and you will be able to get it on Friday,” Karuhanga said.
He however said there is no express arrangement for issuing the certificate of good conduct in one day.
“There is no express processing of the certificate of good conduct unless there is an unusual situation.”
He explained the application for a certificate of a letter of good conduct is done online, adding that it costs only shs70,000 but the cost goes to shs80,000 after including bank charges as well as national IDs, refugee certificates and two passport photos.
“We have established a customer help desk to help those who have failed to access online services. Desist from using brokers who inflate the cost of the certificate.”
He said in the future, Interpol expects to extend this service to the various police regions across the country to reduce distance that people have to move to Kampala.
Applicants are asked to go to the Uganda Police website at www.upf.go.ug and go to the service log to access the application forms.
A police letter or certificate of good conduct is a document issued by Interpol to show that its bearer has no criminal record and employers.
