Police have started investigating circumstances under which two Fortebet betting company offices in Nateete, a Kampala suburb were raided and robbed by panga-wielding men.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said the attacks that happened at around 11:30am on Monday targeted the Fortebet office along Nateete Ndeeba road and the one at Nateete Business Centre.
The two offices are 100 metres apart.
“It is alleged that the group armed with pangas attacked a Fortebet along Nateete-Ndeba road and robbed an un specified amount of money and from there, they proceeded to another Fortebet at Nateete Business Center along the same road and still robbed more money,” Owoyesigyire said.
He noted that police was informed of the robbery at Nateete Business Centre and dispatched a team that found the thugs inside the building.
Meanwhile, one Benard Kayongo Nadumba who was part of the thugs realised they had been cornered and tried to run away.
“He was shot at in order to neutralize him and he fell down where he was arrested but then rushed to Mulago Hospital where he was pronounced dead after some hours. His associates fled the scene,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said a case of aggravated robbery has been registered and statements recorded from witnesses.
Some exhibits including a wallet and bunch of keys were recovered while the police ICT team is on the two scenes to retrieve CCTV footage.
