Police have said they have started a hunt for their own officer who allegedly shot dead a driver after an altercation in Kampala.
Constable Charles Bahati was on Monday afternoon involved in an argument with a driver of vehicle registration number, UAX 480C, identified as Julius Ssemwaka.
“During the altercation, Bahati opened fired fatally wounding Ssemwaka,” Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said in a brief statement.
He said the incident happened at Ssezibwa Road in Nakasero.
“The police responded promptly to the scene, securing and collecting evidence to aid in the investigation. However, the firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting is yet to be recovered.”
He noted that investigations into the shooting are still ongoing to ascertain what exactly led to the altercation and the subsequent shooting.
