The Police in Iganga District have launched a manhunt for a group of individuals responsible for a violent attack on controversial Ugandan musician Patrick Mulwana, widely known as Alien Skin.
The incident, which also left his vehicle severely damaged, occurred during a belated International Women’s Day celebration on Sunday, April 13.
The chaos broke out at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School shortly after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja addressed a large crowd gathered for the district’s Women’s Day festivities.
Eyewitness accounts offer conflicting explanations for what sparked the violence. Some claim the trouble began when Alien Skin made demeaning remarks about fellow musician Bobi Wine, angering fans in the crowd.
Others allege the situation escalated after a fan attempted to join the singer on stage but was mishandled by Alien Skin’s security team, resulting in visible injuries.
According to Busoga East Police spokesperson SP Michael Kafayo, the unrest was triggered as Alien Skin performed and “a visibly enthusiastic fan breached security and jumped onto the stage to dance with the singer but was stopped by Alien Skin’s private security detail.”
“The aggressive handling of the fan enraged a section of the audience, some of whom began hurling stones toward the stage in protest,” Kafayo said.
Alien Skin was quickly evacuated by his team, who rushed him to his vehicle. However, the agitated crowd followed, pelting the car with stones and causing significant damage.
“We are following up on this matter and investigating the said hooligans and their motive of smashing the musician’s car,” SP Kafayo told journalists on Monday, describing the attackers as “rowdy and dangerous.”
This latest incident adds to a series of controversies that continue to surround Alien Skin’s rise to stardom.
His breakthrough moment came after a widely publicized altercation with fellow artist Pallaso, whose slap inadvertently earned Alien Skin public sympathy and fame.
Not long after, his team was involved in a violent confrontation at Nsambya Hospital, where medical staff were reportedly injured.
On January 1, 2025, the musician was again in the headlines following another scuffle with Pallaso, which resulted in the vandalisation of his cars.
While Alien Skin’s fan base and musical influence continue to grow, the recurring violence at his performances raises fresh concerns about the safety of artists, fans, and the overall security at major public events.
