Police have issued strict directives ahead of Uganda’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, including a ban on any political-affiliated banners or materials inside the venue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango addressed the media, underlining that the event is focused on football, not political activities.
“As we prepare for 2026, political campaigns have already begun, but we will not permit any political posters, T-shirts, banners, or flags in the stadium. If anyone tries to sneak in political materials, security personnel inside the stadium, we will remove them,” Onyango explained.
In addition to political materials, other items deemed a threat to safety have been prohibited.
Onyango confirmed that drinks in bottles, sharp objects, and firearms will not be permitted.
“You will not be allowed to bring drinks in bottles into the stadium. Drinks must be in disposable cups. We also will not allow any items that can harm others, such as knives, screwdrivers, forks, or any sharp objects,” he added.
Police have also advised fans to arrive early for screening and to follow the security guidelines to ensure a safe matchday experience.
