Pebuu, a prominent technology firm in Uganda, has expanded its service network to over 320 locations nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing financial inclusion through cutting-edge technology.
The company’s advanced real-time tracking and geo-mapping solutions are improving operational efficiency by enabling better oversight of agents and merchant service points.
Currently managing more than 20,000 agents across Uganda, Pebuu is revolutionizing the recruitment, monitoring, and supervision of bank agents, which are essential to a well-regulated financial services ecosystem.
“This expansion aligns with our mission to enhance operational efficiency, manage risk, and strengthen compliance at the grassroots level. As a technology firm, we are committed to deploying solutions that bridge service gaps and promote sustainable growth in Uganda’s financial sector and beyond,” said John Paul Ssemyalo, CEO of Pebuu.
The 2023 Uganda Banking Sector Report highlighted that by December, there were 22,217 registered bank agents, 76% of whom were active, processing over 8.1 million transactions valued at UGX 15.1 trillion.
Given the high transaction volumes, Pebuu’s technology supports critical oversight, ensuring compliance and mitigating risks to safeguard the agent banking network.
Strategic partnerships with major financial institutions like Stanbic Bank and Centenary Bank are enhancing Pebuu’s capacity to manage and supervise agents, further aligning with Uganda’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy 2023-2028.
These partnerships help extend financial services to low-income, rural, and underserved populations, advancing Uganda’s financial inclusion goals.
Looking beyond Uganda, Pebuu has set its sights on global markets, opening a new office in the USA to spearhead international expansion.
The company is targeting key African growth markets, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Pebuu’s focus on last-mile delivery solutions underscores its commitment to improving service access for low-income communities across Uganda.
The establishment of regional hubs has not only facilitated the company’s nationwide operations but also provided training opportunities for recent graduates, equipping them with the skills to succeed in the digital economy.
“Our regional hubs are designed to deliver last-mile solutions while creating valuable learning experiences for young professionals entering the digital economy,” added Ssemyalo.
