In a decisive crackdown on escalating criminal activity, police in Nansana Municipality launched a surprise pre-dawn raid arresting 15 suspected gang members from various neighborhoods in Wamala Parish, Nabweru Subcounty.
The intelligence-driven operation, carried out between 1:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., focused on the areas of Katooke A, Katooke B, Kisimu, and Jinja Kalori all located in Wamala Parish, Nabweru Subcounty.
The operation was executed by a combined force of police officers, local leaders, and vigilante groups, working in unison to restore safety in neighborhoods troubled by marijuana use, petty theft, and gang-related crimes.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed that the suspects were apprehended in areas long identified as hideouts for criminal elements.
“Some of those arrested were found with intentions to commit felonies. Two suspects were taken to court over existing charges of theft and simple robbery,” Onyango said in an official statement.
The remaining suspects are currently undergoing screening in coordination with local leaders to determine their involvement in unlawful acts.
According to Onyango, community involvement was pivotal to the operation’s success. Residents played a key role by sharing valuable intelligence that enabled the police to precisely target the suspects.
“We applaud the community for their vigilance and cooperation, which allowed the operation to proceed without incident,” he added.
This raid is part of a broader campaign by law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks that often exploit the Easter season to escalate their activities.
Onyango emphasized that such operations will continue as part of efforts to ensure lasting safety.
“We shall keep carrying out these operations to guarantee the security of our people,” he said.
Police have urged residents to stay alert and continue reporting any suspicious behavior to support the ongoing fight against crime.
