Uganda’s immigration authorities have arrested 177 suspected illegal migrants in an enforcement operation conducted in Kampala’s suburbs.
The operation, which targeted Kansanga, Kabalagala, and Muyenga, aimed at cracking down on individuals residing in the country without proper documentation.
In a post on X, Immigration Uganda confirmed the arrests, stating;
“Our enforcement team has arrested 177 suspected illegal immigrants during an operation in Kabalagala, Kansanga, and Muyenga.”
The authorities further revealed that the arrested individuals come from various countries, including several in East Africa as well as some from Europe.
“The individuals from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, & Sweden are currently being processed for prosecution,” Immigration Uganda stated.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Ugandan government to regulate migration and ensure compliance with the country’s immigration laws.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific charges against the detained individuals or the next steps in their legal proceedings.
