Government has turned down a request by opposition National Unity Platform to use Kololo independence grounds for its fourth anniversary celebrations.
NUP had in a July, 9 letter by the party Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya asked government to allow them use Kololo grounds for their fete.
However, in a July, 16 letter, the Ministry of Defence has told the biggest opposition party in the land that they cannot use the grounds since they are currently undergoing rehabilitation.
“However, due to the ongoing infrastructural development at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, we regret to inform you that the grounds will not be available for your event,”
Commenting about the development, NUP spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi blasted government for practicing double standards.
“Kololo Ceremonial Grounds is always used for various events including recently, but when NUP asked to use the same venue for our 4th anniversary and they are talking about ongoing infrastructural works at the place,” Ssenyonyi said.
