As the 2026 political fever starts to build up, Calvin Echodu, an NRM member from Soroti has announced a bid to unseat Mike Mukula from the position of the NRM vice chairperson for Easter Uganda.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Echodu said he has been compelled to stand and be a member of the top most organ of the NRM.
“I am offering to stand for the position of vice chairperson Easter Region for NRM. I ask all party supporters to stand with us to get good representation in the CEC. I believe I have something to contribute to guide the party to deliver on the promises made to the people of Uganda,” Echodu said.
He said it is high time new blood takes charge of representing the Eastern region in CEC.
“The party must exist to serve people but if it stops serving the population it represents, it loses its vision and mandate. I believe that as we go into next elections, we need new energy and hope for the region.”
Echodu previously stood as an aspirant for Soroti City West Member of Parliament in the 2021 general election but lost to Jonathan Ebwalu from FDC.
The development comes few hours to the CEC meeting to discuss the 2026 roadmap for the ruling NRM party.
The CEC meeting chaired by President Museveni will sit later today at State House in Entebbe.
