Police have issued a directive banning musicians from moving with gangs, as has been the case in the past.
“We have decided that musicians moving for performance should have with them only five people. These include the DJ, manager, secretary, treasurer and head of security. If we get you moving in gangs, we shall arrest all of you and scrutinize you to find out who the DJ , manager and other people is,” Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson , Patrick Onyango said on Monday.
“Our order is clear and musicians should put it in consideration. Anybody who violates it will held accountable.”
Following the deadly fights between singers Alien Skin and Pallaso, members of the public have raised concerns in regards gangs, especially by musicians.
For example, during the Enkuuka fete organized by Buganda Kingdom on December 31, there were ugly scenes as Alien Skin’s gang terrorized members of the public who were enjoying the show.
These have ben cited in many other cases including the attack on National Unity Platform headquarters recently.
Many have blamed security for turning a blind eye to these actions.
Speaking on Monday, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they have not turned a blind eye on anyone, noting that where reports have been made, they have acted.
“Pallaso was attacked but didn’t report. We are still waiting for him to report. Alien was attacked and reported to police. If you don’t report to us, we can’t force you. “
