President Museveni has revealed that testing for Coronavirus will not be mandatory for delegates as a prerequisite to attend the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala.
“During the NAM summit, we shall not do the compulsory corona testing. Why? It is because, after consultations with some of NAM stakeholders, we found that some of the NAM delegates do not want their DNA exposed,” Museveni said on Thursday.
According to the president, he has been advised by some of the stakeholders for the NAM summit that their DNA could be exposed during the testing exercise and this could compromise their security.
Uganda will between 15 to 20 January 2024, host the 19th summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Heads of State and Government at Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo.
Uganda will consequently assume chairmanship of the Non Aligned Movement for three years.
Founded in 1961 at the height of the Cold War, the Non-Aligned Movement, has a membership of 120 countries — 53 from Africa, 39 from Asia, 26 from Latin America and the Caribbean, and two from Europe.
The summit will help increase the influence of Uganda in international affairs.
