The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, has officially received copies of the letters of credence from Ms. Lisa Chesney, the newly appointed High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Uganda.
The formal ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
Gen. Odongo warmly welcomed Ms. Chesney, praising the strong, historic ties between Uganda and the UK.
He acknowledged the UK’s long-standing role in Uganda’s development, noting its substantial contributions to the country’s social and economic progress.
“The United Kingdom has been a dependable partner to Uganda for decades. Through various development programs, the UK has bolstered our efforts to foster social and economic growth, strengthen institutions, and improve the lives of our people. We are confident that under your leadership, our bilateral relations will flourish further,” Gen. Odongo said.
He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the UK, particularly in areas of mutual interest, such as trade, investment, education, health, and governance. The minister expressed optimism that the new High Commissioner would build on the existing partnership, delivering mutual benefits for both nations.
In her remarks, Ms. Lisa Chesney expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed her eagerness to take on the role. She underscored the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its strategic partnership with Uganda.
“I am honored to assume this position and look forward to further strengthening the excellent relations between Uganda and the United Kingdom. Our two countries share a rich history of cooperation,” Ms. Chesney stated.
She further highlighted the UK’s dedication to supporting Uganda in addressing critical global challenges such as climate change, promoting sustainable development, and fostering inclusive economic growth.
“I am excited to collaborate with the Ugandan government to achieve our shared objectives of economic growth, environmental protection, and addressing climate change,” she added.
