National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has attributed the recent devastating floods in Kampala to poor governance and inadequate urban planning.
The floods, which hit the city last week, wrecked havoc in Kampala, including loss of lives and destruction of property, leaving many residents stranded.
Commenting about the matter, Kyagulanyi criticized government’s response to disasters, arguing that the administration of President Museveni has consistently failed to prioritize the welfare of Ugandans.
“The government of Mr. Museveni clearly doesn’t care about its people,” Kyagulanyi stated.
“This is not the first disaster caused by negligence. Recently, we saw how garbage heaps in Kiteezi collapsed and claimed lives, yet the authorities have remained silent. Now, we are witnessing more deaths and destruction due to floods, but the leadership continues to ignore the suffering of the people.”
The opposition leader emphasized that these recurring tragedies are a direct result of mismanagement and lack of proactive planning by those in power.
He accused the government of failing to implement effective drainage systems and urban policies that would prevent such disasters.
Kyagulanyi further asserted that only the NUP, with its people-centered ideology, has the capacity to transform the country by prioritizing the needs of ordinary citizens.
He called for a total overhaul of leadership at all levels, urging Ugandans to support the opposition’s vision for a better Uganda.
“We need to change the leadership of this country, starting from the grassroots to the highest levels,” he said. “If we are given the opportunity to lead, we can bring real change and ensure that Ugandans no longer suffer due to preventable disasters.”
The recent floods have reignited discussions on the state of infrastructure and urban planning in Kampala, with critics accusing KCCA of neglecting key sectors such as drainage and waste management.
