The UPDF has killed Musa Kamusi one of the most wanted ADF commanders involved in terrorizing members of the public along the border.
According to the UPDF spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye, Kamusi was put out of action on Wednesday morning in Kibale national park.
“He was one of the commanders who attacked Kamwenge,” Brig Kulayigye said.
It is said that Kumusi replaced Njovu who was recently captured alive by the UPDF and was behind the group that attacked tourists in Queen Elizabeth National Park killing two and their driver.
The Ugandan army also linked the recent attacks on Kamwenge villages which left 13 people killed in two separate attacks to the group commanded by Kamusi.
“Our forces that have been hunting the terrorists in Kibale NP, have killed two terrorists and captured 1 machine gun, 1 Sub machine gun, 1 walk talkie and 3 improvised explosive devices. We shall continue the pressure till victory,” Brig Kulayigye said.
The UPDF has of recent intensified the hunt for ADF fighters who have caused havoc in areas near the border with DRC.
Last week in the wee hours of the morning, a group of ADF rebels attacked Kyitehurizi trading centre in Kyabandara parish in Kamwenge subcounty in which they killed 10 people.
The 2am attack saw 10 crop night watchmen against monkeys from the forest attacked and killed.
Later, another group attacked yet another village in Kamwenge and set a house on fire burning an elderly lady and her grandchildren before looting cattle and goats.
President Museveni last week directed the UPDF to reactivate Local Defence Units in the areas surrounding Queen Elizabeth National Parks, Kibaale Forests, the forests in Kyenjojo and Kagadi, Semuliki National Park and Bwindi National Park.
To this, the UPDF has since announced that they are to recruit over 1400 LDU personnel.
