The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao has been introduced at private function at the parents of his lover, Beatrice Kayanja on Sunday.
During the kukyala function at the home of Kayanja’s parents in Najjankumbi, Mao was escorted by close fiends who also included the deputy speaker of parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, his wife , Dusman Okee( Mao’s brother), Mbarara City North MP Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari and Betty Bigombe among other family members and friends.
However, not much is known about the details of the function but it set the ground for an upcoming official introduction ceremony later this year.
Beatrice Kayanja who used to be Mao’s research assistant separated with her husband, Martin Kayanja following a successful divorce petition in the Family Court in 2021.
The divorce petition was filed by Beatrice who asked court to dissolve their marriage on ground that it had been stormy.
Beatrice and Martin had got married in 2004.
In rebuttal, the husband, Martin Kayanja accused Mao of being behind the storm in his marriage, telling court that the DP president would call his wife late at night.
He said that despite Beatrice calling herself a research assistant to Mao, this title was only used as a cover up of the extra marital relationship with Mao, telling court that she had not background in doing research.
Court would later divorce the two lovers.
Beatrice Kayanja currently works at the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat
Earlier in 2029, the High Court in Kampala had officially allowed Norbert Mao to divorce with his wife, Naomi Acheng Odongo.
Odongo had in 2017 filed for divorce citing acts of cruelty from her husband which she said had forced their marriage to break down irreversibly.
In response, Mao too had admitted that both lovers who had got married in August 2003 could no longer stay together.
