The High Court in Mukono has sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, Mathew Kirabo, a medical doctor who was last year convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe.
Justice Henry Kaweesa on Tuesday concurred with the prosecution led by Happiness Ainebyoona that Mirembe’s bright future was cut short by Kirabo.
He consequently sentenced him to 30-year jail term but ruled that the convict will only serve 29 years, 10 months and three days in prison after deducting the time he had spent on remand.
Before conviction, Kirabo apologized to Mirembe’s family but told court he ran into hiding after a video of him admitting participating in the murder was played in court.
The High Court in Mukono last year found, Dr. Matthew Kirabo, guilty of the grisly murder of his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe Jemima, a former Makerere University and dumped the body in Lugazi.
Justice Henry Kaweesa Isabirye said evidence proved that the murder was as a result of a love story gone wrong.
The judgement was delivered in absentia after Kirabo had jumped bail and run out of the country.
He was earlier this year arrested by InterPol in Kenya and was later extradited to Uganda.
