Police in Masaka have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which a man chopped off his lover’s palm whom he suspected of having another love affair.
Atanansi Mayanja,38 a resident of Kalunduka village in Kibinge sub-county in Bukomansimbi also hacked his lover Faridah Babirye, 30 on the head and other body parts.
It all started when Mayanja found his lover of six months tilling the garden on Monday morning together with her two children from the previous relationship.
“He asked me to give him the phone he had bought me that he accused me of using to call my other lovers. He shattered it into pieces,” Babirye said.
The victim says after destroying the phone, Mayanja started cutting her with a panga on the head prompting her daughter to try to intervene to save her mother.
As the other child ran away, Mayanja turned on the daughter whom he also cut as the wife run away.
Meanwhile, after cutting the daughter, Mayanja gave a chase to the lover whom he found trying to enter a neighbour’s house and chopped off her palm.
Namutebi and her daughter have since been admitted to Masaka regional referral hospital for treatment while Mayanja is currently on the run.
Following the incident, locally mobilised and tried to look for the suspect but all in vein.
Masaka police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident and that the hunt for the suspect has started.
“We urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.” Kasirye said.
