Hundreds of Ugandans on Saturday thronged UHome showroom at Arena Mall in Nsambya to partake of the shopping spree for discounted products .
As the showroom which deals in products manufactured at the Mbale Industrial Park officially opened, it announced discounts on all products including electronics, kitchen cookware, utensils and everything sold at the store.
As early as 7am, shoppers had already gathered inside the showroom .
One of biggest items that attracted a number of shoppers were the pillows which had been discounted from shs20,000 to as low as 5,000.
Speaking during the official opening, State Minister for Investment and Privatization hailed the owners of the showroom for extending quality products to Ugandans and at a cheaper price.
She urged Ugandans to buy these products since they are not only cheap but also manufactured locally.
“By buying these products, you are creating employment for people who work in these factories. Anything you buy translates into jobs and that way you are supporting the economy, ” Anite said.
“By manufacturing these product locally, we have ensured money is not given away in form of importation but also we have created so many jobs form our brothers and sisters.”
Paul Zhang, the chairman of Tian Tang Group and Mbale Industrial Park said the products are sold cheaply because they are manufactured locally while the raw materials are also sourced locally.
“We want to assure Ugandans that all products sold are manufactured locally. We are supporting the economy of Uganda to grow and become the biggest in Africa,” Zhang said.
Luke Wang, managing director of UHome, said they are to open showrooms in all cities in the country.
“This is the first showroom, but we want to open showrooms in every city in Uganda.We already have a showroom in Mbarara , Gulu and Mbale but we are to open more in other cities to make sure Ugandans enjoy products manufactured by their brothers and sisters from Mbale Industrial park,” Wang said.
He said that the discounts will continue in the festive season until the new year.
