The High Court in Kampala has granted bail to lawyer Eron Kiiza to bring to a halt, his almost four-months incarceration.
Kiiza was in January sentenced to 9 months imprisonment by the General Court Martial for contempt but he has since challenged the same arguing that everything was done illegally.
On Friday, the lawyer was granted a shs20million cash bail by Justice Michael Elubu while each of his sureties is to pay a non-cash bond of shs50 million.
The judge said that since Kiiza has a fixed place of abode, his sureties are substantial, nothing stops him from granting bail to the lawyer.
The court also ordered Kiiza to report to its registrar every first Monday of the month.
“The applicant(Kiiza) shall be required to deposit his passport with this court. In the event he requires it for travel, an application to that effect will be made before this court,” the judge directed, before he ordered the lawyer’s release on bail.
The was jubilation in the court room after the judge pronounced himself on the bail.
