The Kampala Archdiocese has announced it will hold a special Requiem Mass in honor of the late Pope Francis on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Lubaga Cathedral.
The mass, scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon, will be led by the Papal Nuncio to Uganda, Archbishop Luigi Bianco.
The announcement was made through an official communication from the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Pius Male Ssentumbwe.
“Following the demise of His Holiness Pope Francis, on behalf of His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, Archbishop of Kampala, I hereby communicate that there will be a Requiem Mass at Lubaga Cathedral,” Fr. Ssentumbwe stated.
He also noted that a condolence book has been opened at Lubaga Cathedral for the faithful to express their sympathies and pay their respects to the late pontiff.
The Archdiocese has encouraged all priests, religious, and the faithful to unite in prayer for the repose of the Pope’s soul.
“We continue to pray for a peaceful repose of the soul of Pope Francis in our Homes, Parishes and Prayer Centers,” Fr. Ssentumbwe added.
Pope Francis, known for his humility, compassion, and progressive stance on global issues, leaves behind a legacy of service, dialogue, and unwavering commitment to the poor and marginalized.
The Friday Mass is expected to draw large numbers of Catholics and wellwishers from across the country in mourning and prayerful remembrance.
