Jinja Progressive Academy have emerged the winners of the sixth edition of the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association(USSSA) schools championship after beating Teso’s Amusi college 4-2 in penalties.
In a game played at St. Joseph of Nazareth High School, the two sides had settled for a goalless draw in open play before the Jinja side ejected Amusi College on penalties.
Earlier, the rivalry between Teso sub-region schools Bukedea Comprehensive owned by the speaker of parliament, Anita Among and Amusi College school owned by the parliamentary committee chairperson Patrick Isiagi, again resurfaced.
The two schools were supposed to meet in the boys’ football semifinals but the game ended before it started as Bukedea Comprehensive adamantly failed to produce players’ tags that were supposed to be the license to play in the championships.
They lost the match by forfeiture leaving Amusi College to progress to the finals.
Rashid Wangala, Rashid Kirango and William Isabirye, all from Jinja Progressive were named best goalkeeper, top scorer and most valuable player respectively.
In girls’ football and netball, St Noah Girls and Buddo SS emerged champions respectively during the three days event held at St Jospeh of Nazareth Kavule- Katende.
Goals by Nancy Wandera, Brenda Nassaka and Imelda Kasemire ensured St.Noa are again the new Elite Queens.
Maimuna Namuwaya, Sylvia Kabene and Imelda Kasemire, all from St.Noa were voted the best goalkeeper, top scorer and most valuable players respectively.
In basketball, Buddo SS were crowned elite champions in the 5v5 after Amus College failed to show up for finals .
