A total of 43 officers from the UPDF have successfully completed a five-day training in Military Internal Security Operations at the Legal Training Centre in Gadaffi Barracks, Jinja City.
Presiding over the ceremony, Brigadier General William Bainomugisha, Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, highlighted the significance of the course, which equips officers with intelligence, legal, and investigative skills.
He encouraged the graduates to embrace continuous learning to enhance their professionalism and effectiveness in duty. Additionally, he urged them to uphold core values such as loyalty, discipline, hard work, and good health.
Major Wako Wambuzi, representing the Commandant of the Legal Training Centre, explained that the training brought together participants from various UPDF units, including the Military Police, Legal Department, Special Investigations Branch, and Special Forces Command.
Mr. Tomboy, a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), described the training as a crucial step in reinforcing the UPDF’s commitment to human rights.
Similarly, Senior Superintendent of Police, Andrew Muzuira , speaking on behalf of the Regional Police Commander of Kiira, emphasized the importance of collaboration in security operations. He reminded officers to treat civilians with respect, as they are fellow citizens.
During the event, outstanding performers were recognized. Major Edward Kayiwa was commended for his leadership skills, Captain Ben Iranya was acknowledged as the most active participant, while Lieutenant Gloria Nabagesera received awards for both discipline and best female participant.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including ICRC officials Mrs. Patricia Bako and Mrs. Sahar, as well as Lieutenant Colonel Perez Muhwezi, who represented the Commandant of the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy. Senior and junior officers from Jinja Cantonment were also present.
This training underscores the UPDF’s commitment to building a highly skilled and professional force capable of handling internal security challenges effectively.
