The lovers of Jazz music will receive a special treat as celebrated saxophonist, Isaiah Katumwa will be returning home during the dfcu Jazz in the pearl festival.
The festival is set for May, 10 at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Katumwa has not performed in Uganda since he relocated to the United States of America and according to organisers, the Jazz in the pearl event will be his homecoming.
He will be joined by world-renowned saxophonist, Kirk Whalum, whose Grammy-winning artistry has captivated audiences globally, as well as Tshaka Mayanja and the Black Roots Academy of Soul, one of the most talented jazz musicians currently in Ugandan.
Officials described the dfcu Jazz in the Pearl Festival is not just a celebration of music but it is a tribute to the jazz culture that dfcu Bank is committed to promoting and preserving.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, Helena Mayanja, the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at dfcu said music has an extraordinary way of cutting across barriers—whether those barriers are cultural, social, or even generational. It transcends language, yet it speaks volumes.
“Jazz, in particular, is a genre that embodies freedom and creativity. It’s a conversation, a feeling, and we are excited to launch a festival in our 60th year of existence that will last hopefully another 60years and beyond,” Mayanja said.
“This festival represents more than just entertainment. It’s a platform for nurturing local talent, amplifying Uganda’s rich cultural voice, and showcasing it to the world.”
The concert will go for ssh250,000 for early bird tickets and later shs300,000 at the gate.
