Isaac Ssemakade , the self proclaimed ‘Legal rebel’ has been elected as the next Uganda Law Society president.
During elections held at Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, Ssemakadde polled 225 votes against Isaac Atukunda’s 102.
In his campaigns, Ssemakade promised to decolonize Uganda’s legal system.
He insisted that his unapologetic style and refusal to conform to some of the entrenched legal norms was what what’s needed to shake up the status quo.
Ssemakadde has in the past taken on high profile cases but also defended many people whose rights had been violated .
It remains to be seen the reforms his presidency will bring to the Uganda Law Society.
