Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has expressed appreciation for the unity displayed by National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and his former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, during the Kabaka’s birthday thanksgiving mass held at Rubaga Cathedral.
While addressing the congregation, Katikkiro Mayiga said he was pleased to see the two leaders sitting together despite their current political disagreements.
“I’m pleased to see Bobi Wine and Mpuuga sitting together,” the Katikkiro said.
He further noted that he saw them engaged in a joyful conversation and hoped that the dialogue would continue beyond the event.
“I saw them having a conversation. I just pray this conversation doesn’t end here but to continue,” he added.
His remarks were met with applause from the faithful attending the mass.
In his message during the celebration, the Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, congratulated the Kabaka of Buganda on reaching 70 years of age. He also commended the Kabaka for allowing the Archdiocese to host the celebrations of this milestone.
The Archbishop praised the Kabaka for initiating transformative programs during his reign, saying he has truly walked in the footsteps of his father.
“One of the things we celebrate today, about Kabaka, is improving the communication, improving the education sector and also the health sector,” he said.
Archbishop Ssemogerere also thanked God for the Kabaka’s recovery from a recent health challenge and for protecting the kingdom from critics during that period.
