The outgoing Inspector General of Police, John Martins Okoth Ochola has hailed his time as the police chief as one with fond memories.
“I step into the next chapter of my life, I carry with me the fond memories of our accomplishments. May the Uganda Police Force continue to be a beacon of excellence and a force for positive change in the enforcement of law and order,” Ochola said on Monday as he handed over office after expiry of his term.
Ochola, who was appointed as IGP in 2018 to replace Gen Kale Kayihura has served two three-year terms as police chief.
Today, he handed over office to his deputy, Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi who will hold fort until President Museveni appoints the new IGP.
Speaking during the handover on Monday, Ochola said it was an honour to have been appointed by the president in 2018, to elevate him from the office of the deputy Inspector General of Police.
He hailed President Museveni for supporting him during his tenure.
“Anchoring on teamwork, support and guidance from the President and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we were able to register numerous achievements in policing as well as creating a general atmosphere of calmness, togetherness and a sense of belonging we are witnessing today,” he said.
“ The numerous achievements spelt out in my handover report and by the various directorates, were made possible working with a wonderful team and dedicated officers, across all ranks, who gave their best in ensuring that the Institution succeeded in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.”
Ochola also hailed the Police Authority, Police Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) members and the Police Council delegates for the great support to him during the six year tenure.
“To my successor and the incoming team, congratulations to you all. I wish you monumental success as you steer this Institution to another level. l say goodbye to everyone and I wish you all and your families the best in life and God’s blessings.
