Ugandan singer Sheebah Kalungi has shared her inspiring journey, emphasizing that anyone, regardless of their background, can achieve great success.

Speaking ahead of her upcoming concert “Neeyanzizza,” which means “I am grateful” in Luganda and is set for October 4 at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Sheebah reflected on her rise from humble beginnings.

“I represent a child from a family without much, with no formal education, and whose parents had little to offer. I have hustled all my life,” Sheebah said on Tuesday.

“After leaving home, I struggled for four years in karaoke before joining the all-girl group Obsessions, where I launched my solo career.”

The 34-year-old singer described her journey as a story of becoming “somebody out of nothing,” noting that her success came despite not having a music background or formal training.

“None of my parents were singers, and many didn’t believe in me. I never sang in church or anything close to that, but I have made it to the top,” Sheebah shared.

She credited her fans for their unwavering support throughout her nearly two-decade career in the music industry.

“I am grateful for what I have achieved so far,” she said, adding that her upcoming concert is a way of thanking her fans for their love and support.

Sheebah first rose to fame as a dancer with the Obsessions group in the early 2000s. In 2019, the “Wakikuba” singer expressed her gratitude to her mother, Edith Kabazungu, for her sacrifices.

“When I was growing up, Mama didn’t have enough money to buy all of us clothes. So, every time she got a new gomesi, I got a new little dress from the leftover material. This is all I remember wearing after school,” she shared.

Sheebah credits her mother for instilling in her a sense of independence and resilience. “Your story turned me into a strong feminist,” she added.
