Once again, boys have outshone their female counterparts in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations, whose results were released today.
According to UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo whereas girls performed better than boys in English, the boys performed highly in the remaining three other subjects including Mathematics, science and SST.
The males also recorded a lower failure rate.
The performance
For example, 47452 males candidates representing 13.26% of the total candidates who sat for PLE passed in division one, compared to 39130 representing 9.99% girls in the same division.
A total of 164906(46.09%) male learners passed in division two, compared to 171,601(43.83%) females in the same division.
In the failures, 38346 representing 10.72% were boys who got division U and totally failed the exams and are advised to repeat primary seven while the number for girls who failed is higher, at 49926 representing 12.75%.
The results show that a higher proportion of candidates passed in division three whereas the number of candidates who got division U which means they totally failed the 2023 PLE exams is also high at 88269 representing 10.4%.
According to UNEB, districts like Kibuku(31.5%), Madi Okollo( 31.5%), Dokolo(28.9%), Kween(28.4% and Namisindwa(28.9%) had failure rates higher than the national average of 10.4%.
