Police have explained circumstances under which armed assailants who shot dead a Buganda clan head were cornered by locals and killed.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, the incident happened at around 6pm when armed assailants moving on a motorcycle shot and killed Daniel Bbosa, the head of Buganda Ndiga clan but also the director of Transa Electrical.
By the time of his killing, Bbosa was approaching his home in Kikandwa Zone, Lungujja Parish, Lubaga Division.
“During the heinous act, a vigilant local resident bravely intervened, knocking down the assailants’ motorcycle and alerting the community,” Owoyesigyire said.
“ Swiftly, members of the community mobilized, leading to a confrontation with the assailants. Mob justice ensued, resulting in the death of one assailant at the scene, while the other remains in critical condition.”
According to eyewitnesses, following the shooting, a group of boda boda riders gave a chase to the assailants before being cornered in Bulange, over two kilometres away from the crime scene.
Here, one of the boda boda riders who was closely following the assailants overtook them and used his motorcycle to block the one on which they were traveling leading to a fall.
As the motorcycle that the assailant fell on the ground, one of the suspects got trapped under it while the second one, a passenger jumped off to run away but was cornered in one of the corridors and hit to death.
The second assailants who was the rider was also got and beaten by the angry mob.
The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said whereas it was first reported that both assailants had died instantly, one was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
“The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unknown, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.’
He said the firearm used in the murder together with the motorcycle registration number UEX 754E, utilized by the assailants during the attack have been recovered.
He said these findings will be instrumental in the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
