Police have intensified the hunt for allies of notorious singer, Patrick Mulwana, also known as Alien Skin over an incident in which staff at Nsambya Hospital were beaten on Tuesday night.
The incident stemmed from a fracas after Alien Skin’s group brought to hospital, one of their members, Joram Tumwesigye for medical attention after being involved in accident.
A few hours after being admitted, according to an account by the hospital, Tumwesigye passed on and this angered, Alien Skin’s group who demanded answers from the medics of how everything happened.
They would later beat up a medic and two security guards who were preventing them from causing chaos in the hospital.
Alien Skin on Wednesday morning posted on his X confirming the incident.
“Initial medical attention was given and we paid the necessary bills to secure treatment. His condition seemed stable and was improving. There is suspicion that the hospital may have mishandled his care, or worse, engaged in unethical practice,” the singer posted.
What exactly happened
According to sources privy to the ongoing police investigations, on November, 19 at around 8pm at Kizungu in Makindye division, Joram Tumwesigye was driving a land cruiser, registration number, UAU, 645C and drove out of the gate.
The vehicle which is currently parked at police is owned by Alien Skin.
He later stopped and came out of the vehicle to close the gate but unfortunately, the vehicle started moving backwards.
Sensing danger, Tumwesigye ran towards the vehicle and placed a stone infront of one of the tired in a bid to stop the vehicle but it was late as it was running at a terrific speed.
Sources say that the vehicle overran the stone and squeezed Tumwesigye with its rear end on the wall face.
He was badly injured in the lower abdomen before he was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment.
Chaos at Nsambya Hospital
Meanwhile, on being rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment, Tumwesigye was reportedly given first aid before the medics demanded or payments before X-ray examination could be done .
It is reported that Alien Skin and his group told medics they didn’t have money readily available with them.
Here, they left the hospital to go look for money but while they had just left, the victim passed one.
Later, Alien Skin and a group of about 20 other gang members returned to hospital traveling in a convoy of three vehicles.
They would later block both the entry and exit of the hospital before going to the emergency room of the facility where they demanded an explanation from Lindan Isabirye, the doctor on duty to explain how their colleague had died.
Whereas the doctor tried to explain, it is said Alien Skin’s gang seemed not satisfied with the explanation and in the resultant scuffle beat up the medic as well as security guards who had wanted to intervene.
In videos posted on Alien Skin’s social media, the group is seen ordering medics on what to do and in one of the videos, they are seen ordering the staff at Nsambya Hospital to sit down.
Efforts to calm them down proved futile.
Arrests
On Wednesday, Alien Skin was arrested and arraigned before Makindye grade one magistrates court on charges of robbery of an Iphone, shs480,000 and a wallet.
He has since been remanded to Luzira.
Meanwhile, this website has learnt that one of Alien Skin’s group members identified as Julius Mugabi has also been arrested and is currently detained at Katwe police station over charges of assaulting staff at Nsambya Hospital.
The incident has sparked debate on social media, with a number of people condemning Alien Skin for orchestrating violence wherever he goes.
Many base this on the number of controversies he has been embroiled in in the past and have opined that he is likely to end up like fellow socialite Sipapa who is currently in jail.
