Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which 21 year old female student stabbed her lover with a knife and later turned the knife on herself.
Atwine Shina, a student and resident of Mosque Zone Kibuli Parish Makindye Division Kampala District stabbed her lover, Arnold Senkungu, 24 a barber and killed him following a misunderstanding.
“It’s alleged that Senkungu and Atwine have been cohabitating each other and God blessed them with a baby girl. On December, 27, 2023, one rank Sserunjogi, the immediate neighbour to the deceased heard a sound from the house and rushed to the door only to find the veranda full of fresh blood flowing from the house,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said.
He said the padlock to Ssenkungu’s door was locked from inside the house prompting the neighbours to cut the door and on entering, they found blood oozing from several parts of his body but was still alive.
“He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Atwine Shina was also found dead inside their bed room.”
On examination, the deceased female student had a deep wound on her right neck whereas Ssenkungu had deep cuts on the upper left joint to the neck, elbow joints, two deep stabbed wounds on both chests and on the left thigh.
“Atwine Shina had confided in a friend about mistreatment, purchasing a new knife possibly indicating premeditation. The motive of the murder is still under investigation and more details will be availed as soon as possible,”Owoyesigyire said.
The two lovers left behind a five months old baby while the two bodies have been taken to the Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem.
