The Ministry of Health has tabled a shs1.5 billion supplementary budget to among other finance the supervision of International Specialized Hospital in Lubowa.
Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng made the while appearing before parliament’s health committee during the scrutiny of the 2025/26 budget framework paper.
“The hospital has reached levels that need constant monitoring and supervision and as such, shs1.5 billion is needed for supervision in the coming financial year,” Dr.Aceng said.
She said the money is required for the supervision of the hospital since no consultant was procured to carry out the supervision and that the ministry is using engineers from Ministry of Works and Ministry of Health.
Defends delay
The minister admitted that whereas there has been delays in construction, currently the status stands at 45%, noting that by the end of this year, it will have been completed.
“The construction of Lubowa International Specialised Hospital which is a 243- bed hospital which started in 2019 …. Is currently on course and project is expected to be completed by the end of the calendar year 2025. The overall physical progress of December, 31, 2024 was at 45%,” Dr.Aceng said.
Last year in March, the parliamentary committee on budget rejected a supplementary request of Shs2.7 billion by the Ministry of Health to supervise the construction of the Lubowa International Specialized hospital.
